A Taste of Jazz from Norway at JZ this Monday
One of our favorite Hammond organ players, Steinar Nickelson, is coming back to Shanghai for a few weeks. Another fantastic Norwegian musician, drummer H??Â?kon Mj??Â?set Johansen, will be in town also for only a few days and will play a short concert with Steinar and myself at JZ Club this monday night (the 26th). We will play one set, performing a selection of original compositions written by Steinar and myself. This show is not replacing the regularly scheduled performance, as Arlene, EJ, and Yuko will still play the second and third sets like normal.
Steinar will also have copies of his recently released album, “Mis en bouteille ?? New York” for sale at the show. He recorded the disc, his first album as bandleader, late last year in New York with American drummer Ari Hoenig and Norwegian guitarist Lage Lund.
Steinar keeps a full-size Hammond B-2 organ in Shanghai, and he knows how to rock that thing. He had it sent out here after buying it in the States and keeps it at his father’s place here, and then he comes to town at least a few times a year to play it. He’s lots of fun to play with so I’m looking forward to this concert. Hope to see you there.
