I walked into JZ about a week ago and saw EJ playing a bass with little blue lights embedded into the fretboard.?? I thought, “wow!?? Where’d he get that?”?? It turns out he was trying out three different basses that night, one each set; a guy who makes them had brought them in and asked for his feedback.
It turned out that the one with the lights in it was one of his newest, and EJ said the paint was rubbing off onto his hands.?? He liked the one he had played during the second set, a fretless 4-string with all kinds of fancy features I’m sure.?? Can you tell I’m not a bass player??? Looked pretty darn nice to me though.?? Anyway long story short, EJ ended up buying that fretless bass last saturday.?? And if you want to check out for yourself some of the work this guy does, you can go to his site.?? I’m not sure if he made all the instruments pictured, but I’d believe he did.?? When I talked to him he said he used to make violins.
