The JZ school opening party went well, and lots of people showed up to hear all the bands play including the new big band in town, the JZ Jazz Orchestra. We didn’t have so many people come to the school in the daytime for the open house, but a few did come in to sign up for some jazz lessons. There should be some media coverage on the school in some upcoming magazine articles this month, and more following.
Now that the school is open and ready to go, the class schedule has been established and classes are going to start early in October. The website has been up and running for about a week, but it is fraught with errors and problems so I’m not going to post the link yet.
In other news, the Yuri Honing Trio concert last week went well I hear, unfortunately I had to miss it myself as I was working elsewhere. They had a good time in Hangzhou also, and are interested in coming back to China in the spring to play more, and are interested in doing some master classes and other educational activities.
Upcoming at Shanghai JZ: David Braid sextet Sept. 30
This amazing pianist has been to China a few times already, playing in a few different contexts. This time he will bring his sextet consisting of some of Canada’s more famous jazz players. They will play at the Hangzhou JZ on October 1.
